Since arriving in Canada in 1947, Eric has improved the social life of Canada through his personal and professional activities. Eric and Bobbie with two International students 2005.He is proud of the work he achieved over the course of several decades as he increased the efficiency, effectiveness and “common sense” of various government institutions. His work at the Citizens Research Institute of Canada provided a model of property assessment built on honesty and integrity that has been developed and used in all provinces throughout the country.

Eric has contributed by providing his family with the security and prosperity that he saw in Canada when he first arrived following the end of World War II. In turn, his family has now expanded into four generations, each generation contributing to Canada in its own way.

Eric will never forget the lessons taught to him from the experience of the flying with the RAF in World War II, growing up in the British Empire and being stationed in India with the RAF. These experiences have left an indelible desire on him to 'right some of the wrongs' he witnessed in relation to poverty, social injustice and discrimination. He looks to give back to others what he knows he was privileged to have receive as a young Englishman. In the 1950's, Eric sponsored a family from India to move to Canada (after his experience in India with the RAF).

“Help those who need help to the extent that you are able and enjoy life to the best of your capabilities.”

Currently, Eric and Bobbie regularly host Asian students who come to Victoria, British Columbia to learn English. He and Bobbie take an active role in welcoming them into their home and showing them the beauty and joys of living in Victoria. Like their own experiences, Eric is keen to share with the ESL newcomers the skills and knowledge to help them in their adaptation to a new life in Canada, to help them to learn English and to better understand our immigration process. Eric and Bobbie have sponsored or offered to sponsor several foreign students and their family members.
This poem, adaped by Eric from the work of an unknown author, shows his life philosophy:

My Purpose

To be a little kindlier with the passing of each day;
To leave but happy memories as I go along my way.
To use possessions that are mine in service full and free;
To sacrifice the trivial things for larger good to be.
To give of love in lavish way that friendship true may live;
To be less quick to criticise, more ready to forgive.
To use such talents as I have that happiness may grow;
To take the bitter with the sweet, assured 'tis better so.
