Family

Lien’s family is very important to her. Together they endured the decades long conflict in their homeland of Vietnam. They were forced to flee persecution from Vietnam because of their Chinese ancestry; and were forced into exile that forced them to spend a six-month internment in a Malaysian refugee camp before beginning a new life in a strange country called Canada.

Lien with her two daughters, Lynne & Laura, grandson Nathan and son-in-laws Tom & D’Arcy Lien’s parents and extended family of aunts, uncles and brothers and sisters were all able to come to Canada. Lien, who was close to her mother and father, ensure her parents were able to live near her in Edmonton for many years. Lien’s mother passed away in 2005, but her father, who is now 82 years old, continues to reside in Edmonton.

Lien’s two daughters, Lynne and Laura, are a source of great pride and joy for her. Lien, after moving to British Columbia in 2007, now lives in Victoria with her eldest daughter Lynne and son-in-law Tom. In 2005, Lien became a proud grandmother with the birth of grandson Nate. Daughter Lynne is now expecting her second child sometime in July 2008. Lien loves her grandson Nate and talks about him with great pride. She is excited about the arrival of her second grandchild!

Lien’s youngest daughter, Laura, continues to live and work in Edmonton, Alta. Laura is engaged to be married to her fiancée Darcy and the two will be married in the year to come.

Lien enjoys being a mother and, more recently, a grandmother. It has been and continues to be a source of great d pride for her to see her children make their way in this new land of Canada and to be a part of what they have accomplished for themselves. Both have a post-secondary education, professional careers, their own families and futures that hold much promise.
