Future in Canada
Lien is thankful to be in Canada. She appreciates all this country has been able to provide both her and her family in the way of opportunities, safety, security and well-being.
When asked about her future in Canada and what she would like to see for herself, Lien states she plans on spending the rest of her life in Canada. Her daughters and grandchildren live here as Canadians and this country is now her home. She has future plans to travel again to Vietnam and China, as those are places where her roots are and the source of many of memories- especially as a child and young woman.
For Lien, coming to Canada as a refugee and starting a new life here has been filled with challenges. It has also been filled with many opportunities and benefits. Most important has been the freedom which Canada offers her to make life choices that she never had in Vietnam- such as where to work, where to live, how to raise her children, etc. Other benefits have included Canada’s generous universal health care for all of its citizens, an environment with beautiful forests, clean air and water; and, perhaps most importantly, good education opportunities for her children and grandchildren to create their own futures.
