Family
Family means everything to Ming De and Zhen Yu. In order to be closer to their children and grandchildren, they decided to immigrate to Canada in 2004.
In 1989, the eldest son, Wei Min, left China to complete his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Victoria. After graduating, Wei Min, decided to immigrate to Canada.
The family’s two daughters,Yi Ping and Ya Ping, followed their brother and immigrated to Canada in 1998 and 1999. The youngest daughter Ya Ping now works as an economist while Yi Ping works as a hair stylist. The children all married and started their own families in Canada. Their second son, Zhong Min, who worked for a railway company in China, decided to remain in China with his family.
Although one son and his family remain in China, Ming De and Zhen Yu stay in contact with them with weekly phone calls and through the internet. Ming De and Zhen Yu miss their grand-daughter who is now 11 years of age.
Ming De and Zhen Yu’s family who live here in Canada, meanwhile, continue to grow and prosper. In 2007 their daughter Yi Ping gave birth to Pei Pei, their first Canadian born grandson. Their greatest hope is that their remaining son who lives in China will immigrate to Canada so that the entire family can again be together.
