Future in Canada
The future for Pat is one that is filled with promised and is positive about. Canada has become Pat’s permanent home even though she misses her siblings and family in Malaysia.
Pat is still in good health and regularly active. She enjoys travelling and looks forward to future visits with her family in Malaysia where she can spend time with her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Pat also wants to have them come to Canada to visit her.
As an immigrant and a visible minority woman who has lived in Canada for nearly 40 years, Pat has seen Canada evolve and become more diverse and accepting of diversity. Pat will always remember those painful times when store owners and employees would look past her and only speak to her Caucasian husband. But today she is happy to see that in Canada it is acceptable and common to see couples in inter-racial marriages. That looking different no longer holds the stigma it did when she first married in the late 1960’s. She has experienced and witnessed the positive changes in the attitudes and behaviours of Canadians towards newcomers and is happy to be a part of today’s multicultural Canada.
